For 2026, Form I-9 form updates focus on finalizing remote verification rules (physical inspections due March 31, 2026) and E-Verify system tweaks, including new language (“An alien authorized to work”) and continuous monitoring for status changes, alongside deadlines for USCIS record disposal in January 2026. Employers must ensure their systems align with the 01/20/2025 Form I-9 edition and updated E-Verify terminology to avoid penalties, as enforcement increases.
